Teaching Lab

DIRECTIONS TO LAB:
Enter the College of Education, Norman Hall, on SW 13th Street.
From the front of the building, walk in and take a right on the hallway across from the Dean's office.
The teaching lab, Room 174, will be down the hall on your right.
LECTURE/DEMONSTRATION AREA
This area contains two bulletin boards, a large eight foot long regular chalkboard and a four foot wide chalkboard with an imprinted grid for graphing activites. A self-contained overhead chalkscreen projection center, VHS videocassette player and color monitor, and a pull-down slide projection screen are also located in this area. The large demo table includes a sink, gas and electric outlets, and emergency shut-off buttons for the entire room's electric and gas systems. In addition, a large retractable overhead mirror is located above the demo table. One corner of the room adjoining this area has been designated as the experimental area and contains pipes for gas, water, and electric hook-ups of newly designed equipment. |
SAFETY
An existing closet was modified into a safety alcove in order to centralize the location of all safety equipment. The alcove contains open shelves with designated areas for equipment including fire blankets, chemical spill neutralizers, gloves, goggles, lab coats, first aid equipment, chemical disposal instructions, and broken glass disposal. An emergy burn relief station and a fire extinguisher are mounted on the exterior wall and an emergency shower and eye wash is located just outside the alcove. White base cabinets imprinted with a large red cross clearly designate the safety area. |

STORAGE/DISTRIBUTION AREA
The majority of the lab facility's equipment is stored in a separate locked storage/prep area. In order to maximize the space available for storage, a sliding track shelving system was installed. To facilitate the distribution of materials, a double sided pass through tray system connects the storage and lab work areas. |
